Charlotte Symphony announces new season. Pay close attention to the guest conductors
Mar 21, 2022By Adam Bell, The Charlotte Observer --
The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra announced its 2022-23 season on Monday at a pivotal time for the organization -- when it is looking for a new music conductor.
Maestro Christopher Warren-Green announced in May that the current season would be his 12th and final one leading the orchestra. "Twelve years is long enough," Warren-Green told the Observer at the time. "But you don't leave the orchestra in the lurch. You stand by them until they find the right person."
After his final performance as music director in late May, he will become conductor laureate and music adviser to the symphony as it searches for his replacement.
And that's why concertgoers and symphony fans should pay attention to the roster of guest conductors in the new season. It seems likely that for a number of them, their appearance and work could serve as an audition of sorts for the role of music director.
