About Link Up

Students in grades 3-5 join the orchestra in this highly participatory program, in which they learn to sing and play an instrument in the classroom and perform with a professional orchestra from their seats at a culminating concert.

Link Up addresses the urgent need for music instruction and resources by providing music teachers a free, high quality, year-long curriculum they can implement, along with classroom materials, online resources, and the professional development and support necessary to make the program an engaging experience for students.

Since 2003, Carnegie Hall has made this program available to professional, community, and university orchestras across the US and around the world to support their existing education programs and strengthen their partnerships with local schools.

At the CSO

The Charlotte Symphony is one of more than 100 national and international organizations participating in Link Up. Since 2017, students from CMS, Chester and Lancaster, SC, and various other schools in the region have traveled to Belk Theater to join in a Link Up concert.

In the months preceding the concert, music teachers prepare their students through the a free curriculum provided by Carnegie Hall to sing and play recorder with the CSO. The CSO also provides all participating teachers with a free three hour professional development workshop that walks them through the curriculum, providing best practices for engaging students, and explores the wealth of online resources.

"This experience has made me inspired to learn how to play new instruments..." ~A., Pinewood Elementary

"I felt happy when I was playing the recorder. That was my first time going to the symphony." ~ C., University Park Creative Arts School
