Youth Symphony

The Youth Symphony is our premier orchestra, serving primarily students in grades 8–12.

It's our most advanced ensemble, comprised mostly of high school students, exploring major works from the orchestral repertoire while preparing students for collegiate music study and professional performance opportunities.

Rehearsals focus on artistic refinement, advanced ensemble skills, stylistic understanding, musical leadership, and the professional expectations of high-level orchestral performance — including transposition and proficiency in alternate clefs. Students also engage with contemporary repertoire through collaborations with living composers and guest artists. Sectional rehearsals and coaching with Charlotte Symphony musicians are offered throughout the year. Members are expected to study privately, participate in their school orchestra when available, and arrive at every rehearsal thoroughly prepared.

Youth Symphony performs throughout the season at Blumenthal Performing Arts venues and in communities across the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Students join through auditions held each year. Contact us to schedule an audition today.

Learn From Charlotte Symphony Musicians

We hold sectional rehearsals throughout the year for all CSYO ensembles, giving young musicians the chance to work directly with Charlotte Symphony musicians on techniques and challenges specific to their instrument.
