Boulanger's sweet and playful work evokes the start of a new day before Stravinsky's iconic ballet score brings Petrushka's adventures to life with dazzling orchestration, spirited folk rhythms, and a festival atmosphere.

Across four tableaux, the work portrays a bustling St. Petersburg carnival, Petrushka's dreams, romance, and the puppet's tragic end, with the famous "Petrushka chord" weaving the work together.

The Charlotte Master Chorale joins the Orchestra for Poulenc's radiant and theatrical Gloria, inspired by his profound religious experience at the shrine of the Black Virgin of Rocamadour.
