Spotlight Artist

Each season, Music Director Kwamé Ryan and the Charlotte Symphony shine a spotlight on a singular musical voice.

In 2026–27, the Symphony welcomes Emmy-nominated composer Levi Taylor, whose music blends orchestral and electronic influences to tell compelling stories of identity, history, and the human experience.

Taylor’s music will be featured in two programs, including the World Premiere of Good Trouble, inspired by the words of John Lewis (Check out his interview with The Charlotte Observer about it.), and One Foot After The Other.

Beyond the concert hall, Taylor will work with the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras and local students, sharing his creative process and inspiring the next generation.

Agenda

“As a composer, I seek collaboration in my art just as much as I do in community. I’m drawn to stories that live in the space between rupture and transcendence — where orchestral texture meets synthetic color, where rhythmic tension and dissonance give way to lyricism, and where story challenges who we think we are.”

— Levi Taylor
