Jesdelson Vasquez
Acting Third/Associate Principal Trumpet
The Marcus T. Hickman Chair
Jesdelson Vasquez is serving as the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s Acting Third/Associate Principal Trumpet for the 2026–27 season. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, he began playing the trumpet at age twelve. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Ethan Bensdorf, and completed his master’s degree at Rice University under the guidance of Barbara Butler.
He has performed as a guest musician with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Naples Philharmonic, Sarasota Orchestra, and the Louisville Orchestra. He has also been a fellow at several summer festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Center, Music Academy of the West, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Outside of performing, Vasquez enjoys playing pickleball, climbing, and spending time with his cat, Mia — who definitely runs the household!
What do you hope audiences feel during a performance?
When audiences come to a concert, I hope that for just a little while, we can set aside the distractions of life and simply be present with the music. Each program tells a story — one that may bring back memories, inspire reflection, or offer a new perspective. If people leave feeling moved or carrying something with them that they didn’t have before, then we’ve done our job.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a professional musician?
If I weren’t a musician, I’d probably be on a baseball field instead. I played from age six through high school, and although music ultimately became my career, I’ve never lost my love for the game.
