Evan Currie
Organ
Evan Wesley Currie is an accomplished concert organist, pianist, vocalist, and church musician from Charlotte, North Carolina, currently serving as Associate Director of Music and Organist at Myers Park United Methodist Church, a position he has held since 2018. In this role, he oversees the Myers Park Strings ensemble, guides musical planning for worship, funerals, and weddings, and accompanies the Chancel and Chamber Choirs. He also directs the acclaimed Midday Music at Myers Park series, which thrived during the Covid-19 pandemic with more than forty performances, expanding the church’s musical outreach during a challenging time.
Currie earned his Bachelor of Music in organ performance (cum laude) from Furman University and an Master of Music in organ performance from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he received the Arthur G. Humphrey Memorial Prize for excellence in keyboard performance. His training includes additional studies at the Accademia d’ell Arte in Arezzo, Italy, and an internship at The Juilliard School.
A prize-winning musician, Currie holds honors from multiple professional organizations. He made his national debut as a returning E. Power Biggs Scholar at the 2019 Organ Historical Society convention in Dallas. In 2018, he earned second prize in the George Mathison Memorial Competition hosted by the Brooklyn Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He also received a full stipend to attend the Montreal Organ Festival and McGill Organ Summer Academy, where he performed in a masterclass led by Olivier Latry, titular organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Currie’s work as a performer and collaborator spans the United States, Canada, Scotland, Italy, Germany, and Israel. He has appeared with ensembles including the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, the Old West Organ Society, the Arizona Music Festival Orchestra, the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, and the Charlotte Master Chorale.
Active in professional service, Currie has served on the board of the Charlotte Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Furman Singers Alumni Association. He maintains a private teaching studio in Eastover and Myers Park
