Amy Orsinger Whitehead
Flute
Pennsylvania native Amy Orsinger Whitehead has played flute in the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra since 1997. An avid chamber musician, she also performs in the Rhodora Winds, the Laurel Trio, and Flute4. Whitehead coaches for the North Carolina Youth Orchestra and the Youth Orchestras of Charlotte. She holds a flute performance degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and a chamber music performance degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Institute of Chamber Music.
Whitehead has taught flute at Spelman College, Wingate University, Queens University, and is currently on faculty at Davidson College. When not playing flute, she enjoys strength training, tap dancing, and shopping...especially for shoes!
What piece made you fall in love with music?
Brahms Third Symphony! It is a beautiful, magical piece that truly swept me away the first time I heard it. It still takes me on a wonderful journey that is both familiar and also so fresh and new every time.
What's your favorite thing about living in Charlotte?
My colleagues in the Charlotte Symphony! They are truly exceptional in so many ways and are the very best part of living and working in Charlotte.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I LOVE scary movies. Zombie movies are my all-time favorites.
