Chihiro Tanaka

On Stage

Chihiro Tanaka is currently the Acting Assistant Principal Violist of the Charlotte Symphony. Before joining the Charlotte Symphony, Chihiro was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago where she performed as Co-Principal. She has also performed throughout Japan as a chamber and orchestral musician. In addition, Chihiro has performed at several music festivals including the Rome International Music Festival, Miyazaki Music Academy, and the Aspen Music Festival.

Chihiro began studying the violin at age four and switched to the viola upon entering the Aichi University of Fine Arts in Japan, where she earned both her Bachelor’s with honors and Master’s degrees under Yuki Hyakutake. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with her Artist Diploma while studying with Masao Kawasaki and Catharine Carroll Lees.

In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time outdoors.
