Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras

Founded in 1961, the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras provide training for young musicians in a professional symphony atmosphere. Led by Charlotte Symphony violinist Dr. Ernest Pereira, the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra and Junior Youth Orchestra involve nearly 200 young musicians from over 60 schools in the Charlotte area. Serving students from fourth through twelfth grades, the two youth orchestras rehearse weekly and receive intensive coaching from Charlotte Symphony musicians.

The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras are supported in part by The Symphony Guild of Charlotte. The Guild provides financial aid and scholarships. Each August, students in the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra attend a 5-day residential camp at Converse College, sponsored by The Symphony Guild of Charlotte.
