Festival celebrates neighbor diversity

Sep 15, 2016

Cultural diversity needs representation.

A free festival on Sept. 24, presented by Charlotte Symphony and Community School of the Arts, encourages the community to welcome new neighbors at Winterfield Elementary, Sheffield Park and Winterfield Community Garden.

Starting at 1 p.m., the festival in East Charlotte will include local artists and professional musicians, brought in by Community School of the Arts, who will create artwork, and engage in other culture specific activities in Sheffield Park.

In addition to live performances depicting the neighborhood's cultural diversity, Charlotte Symphony education department members will oversee a crafts exhibit in Sheffield Park.

As a part of Welcoming Week, an annual series that takes place across the country, it is designed to integrate immigrants as well as native-born Americans to foster a sense of community.
