Charlotte Post: Charlotte Symphony Preview and Beer on Tap

Sep 2, 2015

by Ashley Mahoney

Nothing beats free.

Symphony On Tap marks the first Charlotte Symphony free season preview at Belk Theater on September 16.

The sample of the upcoming season starts at 5:30 p.m. and consists of a one-hour concert filled with pieces from KnightSounds, Pops, classics, as well as a selection chosen by the audience. For more information on the voting process, visit www.charlottesymphony.org. "This concert is something new for the Symphony," says Bob Stickler, Charlotte Symphony's president and CEO.

Music Director Christopher Warren-Green will lead the symphony through multiple selections, including "Allegro con brio" from "Beethoven's Smyphony No. 7," a  James Bond medley, "Hoe-down" from "Rodeo" by Copland, as well as an assortment from Prokofiev's "Romeo & Juliet." Following the concert, listebers can enjoy more live music from the Symphony's Rick Dior's Latin quartet.

While the brew costs $2 for domestics and $4 Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Copper drafts, it's a potential savings throughout the season. For instance, attendees do not have to register, but those that do through Eventbrite can win tickets to future concerts, and those who attend can save on upcoming symphony events. Additionally, participants don't have to worry about arriving at a certain time (although the concert itself does start at 6 p.m.).

"We are hoping it will not only give the community a sense of what's in store for the season, but also introduce the Symphony to new audiences," said Stickler.
