June 7 marks opening of the Charlotte Symphony's annual outdoor Summer Pops Series.

For four consecutive Sundays (June 7, 14, 21, and 28)--in addition to a fifth performance to celebrate Independence Day (July 3)--the series offers something to do with the whole family. "The CSO is always excited to make music in Symphony Park," said conductor Albert-George Schram.

In addition to the performances at Symphony Park (4400 Sharon Road--behind SouthPark Mall) the CSO Summer Pops shall extend to Cornelius, Kannapolis, Matthews and Pineville.

The series includes "Summer Pops: Opening Night" on June 7, "Tchaikovsky Spectacular" on June 14, A" Night at the Movies" on June 21, "Hot Spanish Nights" on June 28, and "Celebrate America" on July 3.

"I've carefully selected themes which will appeal to everyone, everything from light classics (a whole evening of Tchaikovsky) to great film music to a wonderful American Independence line-up," said Schram.

Ticket holders may enter the park at 5 p.m. A prelude performance commences at 7 p.m. with the CSO starting at 8:15 p.m. Summer passes are $48 for all five shows or individual program tickets may be purchased ($12 for concerts in June and $16 for July's program).

This Charlotte Pops tradition has brought the community together since 1983, and includes fireworks for the final performance in honor of the upcoming holiday.

"We love our audiences and, together, we create a family-fun atmosphere with great music, picnics, and laughter," Schram said.
