Peter Duca

Double bassist Peter Duca joined the Charlotte Symphony in 1975. Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, he began playing bass in high school. He went on to study music at Youngstown State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in Music Education and a master's in Bass Performance. Mr. Duca's primary teacher was David Perlman, principal bassist with the Cleveland Orchestra. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon by the Catholic Diocese of Charlotte in 1988. He and his wife Martha have three grown children.

First season with the Charlotte Symphony? 1975
I was playing the Tuba in the high school band and the orchestra director asked me if I would like to learn to play the Bass because I already new how to read bass clef and they didn't have any Basses in the orchestra.
I also play the accordion, which was the first instrument I learned - started taking accordion lessons when I was ten years old.

Being recognized along with five of my colleagues for 40 years in the orchestra in May 2016.
Other than your instrument, what would we find in your instrument case?
Bass bow, rosin, pencil, tuner.
Having the opportunity to play great music as a player in a symphony orchestra, and the applause of the audience at the end of a concert.
