Assistant principal violist Sacha Barlow was born and raised in the UK and began playing the violin at age three. Sacha attended St Paul's Girls' School before winning a scholarship to the Yehudi Menuhin School where she played a Grancino violin lent by Lord Menuhin. She was awarded the Jascha Heifetz Violin scholarship at the University of Southern California where completed her bachelors degree in Violin performance. During her time at USC she performed solo violin with the USC Contemporary Music Ensemble and was concertmaster of the USC Symphony, Chamber, Opera and YMF Foundation Orchestras. Upon graduation Sacha won first violin positions with Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Long Beach Symphony Orchestra. She also played in the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and concertmaster of the Los Angeles Theater Orchestra. She returned to the UK, gaining her Masters in Psychotherapy and Counseling from London's City University with UKCP registration. She has counseled patients at Hommerton Hospital, London Marriage Guidance, Services for People Affected by Disabilty Barnet, Kensington Chelsea College of Further Education, Leiths School of Food and Wine and in private practice. For seven years Sacha worked as a registered (ESA & SAA) Suzuki violin teacher with a private studio of 25 students. In 2003 Sacha held an artist residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts, collaborating with a number of famous artists and chamber groups. Sacha has been offered work with all the major British symphony orchestras, as well as both Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras. She has played guest principal viola at the English National Opera and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. First year with the CSO: 2006
