Charlotte Symphony Announces 2011-2012 Concert Schedule
2011-2012 CLASSICS CONCERTS
All concerts take place at the Belk Theater, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

This season’s classics series opens with an exciting all-Russian program. With soaring melodies, crisp counterpoint and nationalist themes, this program highlights the facets of two generations of Russian composers. Featuring Croatian pianist Martina Filjak, this young performer has been called a “musician of unusual sophistication, discipline and personality with a keen grasp of disparate styles…that she conveyed with confident sensitivity,” by The Plain Dealer.

The text of Mozart’s Requiem reads “Death and nature will be astounded, when all creation rises again, to answer the judgment. A book will be brought forth, in which all will be written, by which the world will be judged.” The final piece the composer wrote before death, this stirring work speaks of eternal rest and final judgment. Featuring the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte, join us for this all-Mozart performance.

Cellist Joshua Roman, dubbed a “classical rock star” by the press, joins the CSO for the famous Rococo Variations. Part of the inaugural Tchaikovsky Festival, this concert is full of rich themes and inspired stylings of the renowned composer.
