Charlotte Symphony Begins Offering On-Stage Seating This Weekend Audiences can Hear Beethoven from a New Perspective
November 14, 2011-This weekend, the Charlotte Symphony is offering three nights of some of the greatest works in the history of music. On November 17, 18 and 19 the Symphony will perform the Egmont Overture, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, and Beethoven’s renowned Fifth Symphony. Perhaps the most recognized work in all of classical music, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is considered one of the towering artistic achievements of Western civilization and has spoken to the human spirit for centuries.
This weekend’s offerings also include an exciting opportunity for listeners to experience the Symphony in a whole new way. Beginning this weekend, limited on-stage seating will be available for select concerts throughout the season.
For $26.50, general admission tickets will provide concertgoers the chance to sit onstage behind the musicians, face-to-face with Music Director Christopher Warren-Green. Seats will be situated on risers surrounding the stage, providing these audience members a unique perspective of the music and performers.
This is one of many initiatives launched by the Symphony’s new Music Director, Christopher Warren-Green, and is designed to connect the Symphony more closely with its audiences.
“For me, there is nothing more exciting than the power of classical music performed live,” said Mr. Warren-Green. “This will give Charlotte audiences a chance to experience this in an up-close and intimate way.”
Concert activities also include a pre-concert talk with Associate Conductor Jacomo Rafael Bairos, and a post-concert Musically Speaking talk-back with Maestro Warren-Green and the soloists.
On-stage tickets are available only through the CSO Ticket Office at (704) 972-2000, and must be purchased by 5 p.m. Friday.

"I love being part of the larger whole. When I used to be a Youth Orchestra coach, I would tell the kids that being in an orchestra is like playing chamber music with a really big group. I love how all the pieces fit together like a puzzle. Solo experiences have a different type of challenge and thrill, but making music this way on such a large scale is a wonderful type of satisfaction to me."
