Charlotte Symphony Chorus Director Scott Allen Jarrett receives Grammy nomination for Performance with Seraphic Fire Ensemble
January 3, 2012- Scott Allen Jarrett, the Charlotte Symphony’s Director of Choruses and Assistant Conductor, has been nominated for a Grammy Award as part of his performance with the Miami-based choral ensemble Seraphic Fire’s recording of Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem.
The recording, which uses Brahms’ own transcription for two pianos, features Charlotte Symphony Director of Choruses as a pianist. Jarrett has been involved with Seraphic Fire since 2005 and maintains an active role within the ensemble as keyboard collaborator. This season, he will conduct Seraphic Fire in their tenth anniversary performances of Bach’s B minor Mass, the first person to guest conduct the ensemble since their founding.
The chorus’ performance of Brahms’ Ein Deutches Requiem debuted at No. 6 in September on the Billboard Classical charts. The nomination is for the “Best Choral Performance” award. Four other recordings were selected for the award, with Seraphic Fire representing the sole U.S. nomination.
"I am so proud to be a part of such a fantastic project,” said Jarrett. “Seraphic Fire has grown over the years into one of the country's premier choral ensembles, and it's tremendously rewarding to know that our work is being recognized at such a high level."
Currently in his eighth season as Director of the Charlotte Oratorio Singers, Mr. Jarrett is a resident of Boston. He travels weekly to Charlotte and maintains a busy schedule along the East Coast. He currently serves as the Music Director of the Boston Back Bay Chorale, Director of Music at Boston University’s Marsh Chapel and the Associate Director of Choral Activities at the Boston University School of Music.

"I love being part of the larger whole. When I used to be a Youth Orchestra coach, I would tell the kids that being in an orchestra is like playing chamber music with a really big group. I love how all the pieces fit together like a puzzle. Solo experiences have a different type of challenge and thrill, but making music this way on such a large scale is a wonderful type of satisfaction to me."
