International Violin Prodigy Chad Hoopes to Perform
with Charlotte Symphony February 3 & 4

Symphony will perform Strauss, Mendelssohn and Brahms

January 20, 2012- Escape the winter blues (and the cold) with a night of passionate music celebrating youth and vitality. On February 3 and 4 at 8 p.m. at the Belk Theater, the Charlotte Symphony presents a program to beat the blues and invigorate the spirit.

Since winning the Young Artists Division of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition at 13 years old, violin prodigy Chad Hoopes has embarked on a performing career with the world’s greatest orchestras. Now 17 Hoopes will join the Charlotte Symphony for a dazzling display of virtuosity, performing the famous Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.

Also featured on the program are Strauss’s Don Juan, which tells the dangerous story of the infamous womanizer and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, a work that conveys the essence of the artist and effectively stirs the human spirit.

Join the Symphony and Maestro Christopher Warren-Green for a night of brilliant music-making and a special post-concert reception and announcement of the 2012-13 Classics Season.

A pre-concert Musically Speaking Chat will begin at 7 p.m. inside the theater on the Orchestra level.

Tickets start at $26.50 and are available by calling the Charlotte Symphony Ticket Office at (704) 972-2000, or at www.charlottesymphony.org.

"I love being part of the larger whole. When I used to be a Youth Orchestra coach, I would tell the kids that being in an orchestra is like playing chamber music with a really big group. I love how all the pieces fit together like a puzzle. Solo experiences have a different type of challenge and thrill, but making music this way on such a large scale is a wonderful type of satisfaction to me."  Read more
