Oratorio Singers of Charlotte Chamber Singers to Perform at Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival
Charlotte preview performance scheduled for Thursday, May 27

The Oratorio Singers of Charlotte Chamber Singers will perform next month at the 2010 Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C. The concert, “If Music Be the Food of Love…,” will take place at Bethel United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 29.

Prior to leaving for Charleston, the Chamber Singers will offer a preview concert in Charlotte on Thursday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Myers Park Presbyterian Church.  The concert is free.

“If Music Be the Food of Love…” features Brahms’s beloved Liebeslieder Waltzer, Op. 52(Love Song Waltzes); the Serenade to Music by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and works by American composers Elliot Carter, Irving Fine, and John Corigliano.

“I'm really looking forward to this program,” says Oratorio Singers Director Scott Allen Jarrett. “We are featuring works by three living composers - Jonathan Dove, Eliott Carter, and John Corigliano, in addition to one of my favorite New England composers, Irving Fine. The inspiration for the concert is, of course, Brahms delightful set of love-song waltzes - all perfect for a beautiful summer evening.”

Piccolo Spoleto Festival was founded in 1979 by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs as a counterpart to the internationally renowned Spoleto Festival USA.  Piccolo Spoleto features excellent regional and local artists and performers chosen through a rigorous application process.
