FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 4, 2010
ANNOUNCING COLLEGE NIGHT – FALL 2010
Friday, October 1
The Charlotte Symphony will host the first College Night of the 2010-2011 season on Friday, October 1, when the CSO welcomes The Duke Ellington Orchestra to the stage of the Belk Theater.
In his 50-year career, Duke Ellington and his orchestra performed more than 20,000 concerts. The most prolific and significant composer in the jazz idiom, Ellington wrote some 3,000 pieces, many of which have become the very bedrock of American poplar music. Though an excellent pianist, Ellington’s real instrument was his band, and his orchestrations revealed a distinctive musical voice.
The 16-piece Duke Ellington Orchestra continues the tradition, performing around the world. The Charlotte Symphony opens its Pops season by joining forces with this legendary ensemble to play some of America’s greatest music.
Student tickets just $12! Ticket price includes pre-concert refreshments and a meet and greet with Charlotte Symphony musicians.
Where: Belk Theater, Blumenthal Performing Arts Center
When: October 1. Pre-concert reception at 7 p.m.; concert at 8 p.m.
Contact: Group Sales Manager Joan Foley, 704-714-5119 by noon on Wednesday, September 29 to purchase tickets.
The Charlotte Symphony is the largest performing arts organization in the Charlotte region. It is supported by ticket sales, performance fees, generous individuals, The Symphony Guild of Charlotte, Inc., corporate sponsors, foundation grants, the North Carolina Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and by a basic operating grant from the Arts & Science Council-Charlotte/Mecklenburg.
