Oscar Night® America returns to Charlotte for the fourth year on Sunday, February 22, 2009 for the 81st Annual Academy Awards®.  This glamorous event will take place on the stage of the Belk Theater at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center from 7 pm until midnight.

One of the most significant fundraisers for the Charlotte Symphony, Oscar Night® America has also become known as one of the city’s best parties. This year’s event features live entertainment with local celebrities, a sumptuous array of food and drink, contests, a live auction, and unique door prizes. Party-goers can stay tuned to Hollywood’s festivities through a live television feed of the Academy Awards® telecast – direct from Los Angeles to Charlotte’s Belk Theater via our local ABC-TV affiliate, WSOC Channel 9. The Academy recently announced that actor Hugh Jackman, star of the movies “Australia,” “X-Men” and “The Prestige” will host the telecast.

Tickets are just $75 per person and include all food and drink and valet parking.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced the nominees for the 81st Annual Academy Awards®. Nominees for Best Motion Picture of the Year include: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader, and Slumdog Millionaire. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button received 13 nominations, the most for any film this year.

Jennifer Foster of WDAV and Sean O’Connell of The Charlotte Weekly will discuss these and other nominees throughout the Charlotte Symphony’s Oscar Night® America party, providing interesting insights and insider points of view on the award winners.
