Pre-Concert Festivals begin at 10:00 am 

The Pre-Concert Festival puts the musical experience right in kids' hands, through activities coordinated by the CSO Education Department.  Kids meet the instruments of the orchestra at The Musical Petting Zoo, have fun making musical arts and crafts, and are treated to demonstrations by local musicians.

A wave of the wand, the beat of the baton, and the magic happens! With opulent costumes, spectacular sets, life-sized puppets, and Sergei Prokofiev’s beautiful music, the Philadelphia-based Enchantment Theatre Company and the Orchestra transport young audiences to the fairytale world of Cinderella. You’ll see the enchanted pumpkin transform into an elegant coach and the sparkling ballroom unfold before your eyes, as Cinderella's dreams come true.

Elegant dancing princesses and their heroic suitors charm children and adults alike in scenes from three fairytale ballets – The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker. Accompanied by captivating story-telling and Tchaikovsky’s buoyant scores, students from the School of the North Carolina Dance Theatre leap and spin their way through these beloved tales.

Maestro Yamamoto has raised is baton, ready to lead the orchestra in exciting and beautiful music. But two trouble-makers wander in – a tap-dancing ballerina and a bugle-blowing mime. Together with these zany characters, the audience finds out what it really means to listen.

Mozart’s Magnificent Voyage
with Classical Kids

Mozart's young son, Karl, longs to leave his boarding school to spend more time with his famous father. His wish is fulfilled when Wolfgang Amadeus takes him to a performance of The Magic Flute. In this father-son story, based on a true event, Karl and the audience learn about Mozart's extraordinary life as a traveling prodigy, his pressures from family and fame, and his passion for composing the music will inspire people for hundreds of years. Recommended for ages five and up.
