Why I support my Symphony

Catherine Connor: “I think I know the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. After 7 years of committee work, special sessions, called meetings, fiscal reviews, strategic planning, fundraising, concerts, and coffees, I am rotating off the Board of Directors. How satisfying for me, that we (this is the CSO "we") are at this moment positioned to be the strongest cultural institution in our region. The highest artistic standards and a skilled administration will carry us, with our help. I am so optimistic because the Board, the Musicians, the Administration, the Oratorio, the Youth Orchestras have a clear vision, brought into focus by Jonathan Martin, and our Board leadership, especially Richard Osborne and Pat Rodgers. This is why I support the Charlotte Symphony financially.  This is why you should as well. Send your check in today.”

Jan Haack: “I support the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra because I believe music has an intrinsic value (beyond price.) I love the creative energy the orchestra demonstrates. I love the way music stirs the imagination (Sibelius' Finlandia for instance.) I view it as food for the soul, a stress reliever (especially in these anxious times) – never as an expendable luxury. In fact, it scares me to think of what life would be like if we lose the music our Symphony Orchestra provides Charlotte.”

Mica and Keith Oberkfell: “We both grew up listening to classical music and are dedicated to making sure that there will be a next generation of classical music lovers.  We support the Charlotte Symphony because we hope that the classical musical tradition will remain an important part of Charlotte’s culture.”

Lawrence Toppman: "I own thousands of compact discs and a good stereo, and I can hear at home virtually anything the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra plays. So why do I attend concerts? Because the difference between live and recorded music is like the difference between one of Monet's vibrant watercolors and an attractive poster of it. You can enjoy the reproduction, but you experience the original in a way that can't be duplicated.

Harriett Otten Wacker, Odessa TX: “As a child I was taken to many performances by the Orchestra… My parents were never able to purchase season tickets, but thought an evening at the Symphony was a fine way to reward good grades or to celebrate a birthday. It still is. I hope Charlotte will rise to the challenge and support one of her oldest performing organizations very well."
